Spain is still the top destination for summer travel in 2024, with 9.49 million visitors expected in May alone.

Based on analysis of major markets such as the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, Turespaña’s Summer Trend Reports show that Spain is still the most popular destination for foreign travelers this summer.

The Spanish Ministry of Industry and Tourism has published its estimates for foreign visitor arrivals and expenditures as May draws near. It anticipates a remarkable showing, building on the encouraging trend shown in the first few months of 2024.

Based on projections, Spain is expected to have 9.49 million foreign visitors in May 2024, a 14% rise from May 2023. It is anticipated that traveler spending would approach €12 billion, a significant increase of almost 22% over the same time previous year.

With air travel expected to rise by more than eight percent over the previous summer, British tourists continue to be an important segment of the tourism industry. After their own nation, Spain continues to be the most popular vacation spot for French travelers, and the forthcoming summer is expected to be promising.

With air travel between the two nations rising by 13.8% over the previous year, Italy is another significant market for Spain. The popularity of Spain among Italian travelers is reflected in flight searches on websites such as Skyscanner or Google.

Predictions indicate that this summer will see a further increase in ticket availability and flight frequency for direct connections to Spain of more than 16% in the U.S. market, which has seen significant expansion in previous years.

Jordi Hereu, Minister of Industry and Tourism, was upbeat about the approaching tourism season. He noted a robust winter season and predicted that the trend will carry over into the summer, maybe outperforming the results of 2023.

With estimates of a notable 49.8% increase in air capacity between Spain and China for the summer of 2024, Spain is likewise getting ready for a spike in Chinese tourists. This represents significant growth in comparison to its competitors.
