In 2023, Brazilian and Chinese tourists are most worried about the infrastructure of the EU.

Out of the six major markets surveyed for the Long-Haul Travel Barometer, travelers from China and Brazil have the greatest degree of concern regarding the infrastructure of the tourism industry when they visit Europe.

Based on a survey conducted by the European Travel Commission (ETC), travellers rank safety as the most important factor (41% of all markets) when selecting an overseas holiday destination.

The excellent tourism infrastructure is the second most important consideration when choosing a vacation destination abroad, according to 40% of respondents. Chinese and Brazilian respondents place a special emphasis on this factor; of these, 44% of travelers cite the standard of the tourism infrastructure as one of the most crucial factors when selecting a European destination.

Travelers from Australia closely trail at 39%, followed by those from the United States and Canada at 36% and Japan at 32% who place a premium on the caliber of tourism infrastructure.

The entire visitor experience is greatly improved by top-notch tourism infrastructure, which includes both organizational and physical components that influence how visitors engage with a location. It encompasses all facets of the visitor experience, including the attractions and events that add to a destination’s special allure.

France is one of the top European destinations that respondents from China and Brazil, who exhibit a strong interest in high-quality tourism infrastructure, prefer to visit. France continues to be a popular travel destination, with 79.4 million visitors from other countries in 2022.

France is the most popular choice among Chinese respondents, with 47% choosing it as their preferred European destination. Portugal tops the list with 45 percent of Brazilian respondents saying they intend to travel there, followed by France in second place with 37 percent.

Brazilian and Chinese respondents show a range of interests in the things they hope to do when visiting Europe. Culture and history rank highest among Brazilians’ interests, followed by dining out (42%), city life (37%), and travel (37%). Forty percent of Chinese respondents expressed interest in European gastronomy experiences as their primary activity. Activities related to city life, such as street art, are tied with culture and history at 32%.

Air travel is the preferred means of transportation for both Chinese and Brazilian tourists visiting Europe. Eighty-three percent of Chinese respondents indicated that they preferred full-service air travel, while 29 percent preferred low-cost air travel and 25 percent intended to use train passes. Conversely, low-cost air travel is the option that Brazilian respondents favor the most, with 44 percent selecting it, followed by train passes at 36 percent and single and return train tickets at 32 percent.
