Due to the Sziget Festival and the World Athletics Championships, Hungary sees a significant influx of tourists.

According to the festival’s organizers, this year’s Sziget Festival in Hungary attracted almost 420,000 visitors. This amount was more than 30,000 less than what was recorded last year. According to the website About Hungary run by the international communication office of the Hungarian Prime Minister, the event last year, which drew a throng of 450,000, was highlighted by heightened demand as a result of the epidemic. In Europe, there was a lot of excitement about entertainment after the two-year break. As a result, when individuals had the chance to celebrate 2022, huge crowds descended onto various activities.

The Sziget Festival last year drew attendees who had acquired their tickets by the end of 2019, resulting in a wait of almost three years, according to the organizers. These ticket holders stuck with it and came to the event despite the lengthy delay. While Kádár was unable to confirm specific earnings, the event’s profitability is still unknown, particularly because of factors like food sales.

This year’s festival didn’t have any sold-out days in terms of attendance, though Tuesday with Billie Eilish and Friday with Imagine Dragons were close. Kádár further mentioned that the event featured at least one headlining foreign performer each day.

Kádár indicated that talks for the festival with Billie Eilish started in 2018. The goal of the organizers for the upcoming event is to increase sales of complete festival passes rather than individual day tickets.

Hungary will host the world athletics championship in its capital city from August 19 to 27 in addition to the festival. According to Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) figures, almost 340,000 reservations for guest nights during these precise dates have already been made at Budapest’s lodging facilities. Over 70% of these reservations come from abroad, mostly from travelers to nations like Germany, Israel, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Australia, the United States, India, Canada, and China.

According to About Hungary, the majority of accommodations for both foreign and Hungarian visitors were four- or five-star hotels.

Through telecasts, the event’s global exposure is anticipated to reach an audience of nearly one billion spectators. Competitors and fans will be sharing their views of Hungary. The MTÜ’s General Director, Péter Horváth, emphasized the significant benefits of this exposure for the travel and tourist industry. Balázs Németh, the CEO of the firm in charge of the championship’s planning, predicts that more than 50,000 foreign visitors will come to Budapest expressly to observe the competitions.

According to data, Hungary saw more than 46 million tourist visits in 2022, with almost 13 million of those being overnight stays. Slovaks made up the majority of foreign visitors to Hungary, accounting for 9.2 million arrivals, followed by 7.5 million visitors from another important population.
