3.7 million people visited Cyprus in the first 11 months of 2023.

Compared to the same period last year, when the country got 3,091,039 visitors, Cyprus had a 20.4% growth in tourism with 3,722,022 visitors in the first 11 months of this year. The Cyprus Statistical Service reports that the numbers are very close to the annual record set before to the coronavirus outbreak, which was 3,976,777.

A total of 159,606 tourists visited Cyprus in November of this year, which is 6.5% more than the 149,857 arrivals recorded in November of 2022. The top four nations that contributed to November’s arrivals were Greece (9.7%), Germany (10%), Poland (11.8%), and the United Kingdom (26.8%).

Of all the arrivals in November of this year, 67.2% went to Cyprus for vacation, 19.7% went to see friends and family, and 12.8% went for business. November 2022 saw 70.8% of arrivals traveling for vacation, 15% going to see friends and family, and 14% traveling on business.

According to Alexis Vafeades, the minister of transportation for Cyprus, as of December 15, the number of passengers passing through airports in Cyprus had surpassed that of the pre-pandemic year of 2019, when 11.3 million people did so.

117,487 Cypriots returned from overseas travel in November of this year, a 14.7% rise above the 102,417 recorded in November of 2022. Greek citizens returned to Cyprus at a rate of 33.9%, followed by British nationals (13.5%), and Italian citizens (5%).

In November of this year, the main reasons Cyprus citizens went overseas for travel were holidays (68.1%), business trips (27.7%), study trips (2.3%), and other trips (1.8%).

By the end of this year, foreign travel is predicted to return to about 90% of pre-pandemic levels, according to recent data from the World travel Organization (UNWTO). 975 million foreign tourists visited the UNWTO during January to September 2022, up 38% from the same time the previous year.
