  • Nationals of Kosovo, Kuwait, and Qatar submitted the most visa applications per person in 2022, according to data.
The Federal Council intends to invest €300 million in Schengen funds.

Nationals of Kosovo, Kuwait, and Qatar submitted the most visa applications per person in 2022, according to data.

The majority of visa requests have come from citizens of Turkey, Russia, and India, while Kosovo nationals stand out as the top nation for visa requests per person. Out of every 100,000 residents of Kosovo, 6,891 have sought for visas.

Approximately every 2,126th person in Kosovo’s 1.7 million inhabitants requested for a visa in 2022, outpacing other applicants, according to Schengen Statistics. Kosovo submitted 121,972 Schengen visa applications in total last year, which is 6.8% of the country’s entire population.

With 3,426 and 2,939 applicants per 100,000 residents, respectively, Kuwaitis and Qataris took second and third place for the highest number of visa applications per capita.

This shows that 2.9% of Qatar’s 2.7 million citizens and around 3.42% of Kuwait’s 4.3 million people who live there applied for citizenship. Additionally, in 2022, every 34th person in Qatar and every 29th person in Kuwait applied for visas at Schengen consulates. These nations submitted 147,694 and 79,859 visa requests respectively, placing them 14th and 24th overall in terms of total applications.

The only nations with fewer Muslims living there are Cape Verde, Suriname, and Armenia, which are all among the top 10 with the highest per capita applicant rates. This suggests that the remaining seven nations on the list are largely Muslim nations. With 2,935 visa applications per 100,000 residents, Cape Verde is at the top of the list. This equates to around every 34th citizen in the nation in 2022.

In line with this, Suriname and Armenia took fifth and sixth place in terms of applicants per resident, respectively. Every 37th Surinamese and every 45th Armenian in the past year sought for a Schengen visa. This is roughly 2.7% and 2.2% of the populations, respectively.

In addition, the United Arab Emirates was placed seventh in terms of visa applications per capita, with around every 51st of its 9.5 million citizens applying for a visa in 2022.

Lebanon and Tunisia came in second and third, with 1,853 and 1,351 applications per 100,000 people, respectively. According to the data, every 74th Tunisian and every 54th Lebanese citizen sought for a Schengen visa. In line with this, 1.3% of Tunisians and 1.8% of Lebanese applied for Schengen visas.

With 1,272 visa requests for every 100,000 people, Bahrain completed the top ten list of nations with the highest per capita applicant rates. This suggests that in 2022, a visa application was made by about every 76th Bahraini national.
